Scenic Nature View Of Wheeler Peak August 23, 2025
Scenic nature view of Wheeler Peak on the way up the Summit Trail to its summit with an elevation of 13,065 feet in Great Basin National Park. It stands as the second tallest point in Nevada, and the tallest to have its flanks entirely within the state. Its rocky and windy trail is considered one of the hardest in the park, and finishes with the steepest section of trail in the park. Once standing on its top, Wheeler Peak strikes awe allowing sight of more than 100 miles on a clear day. Hikers should be prepared for a steep and exposed hike where thunderstorms and high winds are common. During the summer, snow still may be on the trail at the higher elevations. Great Basin National Park is located in Nevada within in the stunning diverse Great Basin Desert, one of the four deserts of the United States and the only "cold" desert in the country, where most precipitation falls in the form of snow. Great Basin National Park provides visitors a sample of the massive Great Basin. This region has been home to American Indians for thousands of years.
